Militants attack army convoy at Kashmir’s Bijbehara | KNO

Militants today attacked an army convoy at Bijbehara in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, an army official said, adding that a man was injured when the forces fired back.

FILE PIC || Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to track down the militants, the official said.

“militants opened fire on the last vehicle of the army convoy near Bijbehara. We retaliated and a man was injured in the incident,” he said.

Haji Abdullah (60), a resident of Arwani in Bijbehara, suffered a bullet injury on his left thigh and is undergoing treatment at the Bone and Joint Hospital here, the official said.

Earlier, an elderly man was injured after army allegedly opened fire in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

An eye witness said that army opened fire following an altercation between soldiers and civilians over the thrashing of a youth.

The injured, identified as 60-year-old Mohammad Abdullah Ganaie, was shifted to a hospital in Srinagar for specialised treatment.

He said that passers-by, including Ganaie, staged a protest after army men thrashed a scooty rider in Goriwan area.

Ganai is a resident of Hussanpora village of Arwani area of the district.
